Why This Site Exists
San Francisco's consolidated city-county structure puts local agencies in one jurisdiction, but it does not put their records in one database. The Assessor-Recorder maintains recorded documents and property tools. Superior Court controls its case files. The Department of Elections administers voter records under California law, while certificate services are divided among local and state custodians. Business filings, license searches, and the San Francisco Public Library's historical directories add more paths. We organize those official routes and explain the limits attached to each one.
What the Reference Includes
- Record-focused pages: public records, voter records, and people directories
- Custodian details: the Assessor-Recorder, County Clerk, court, elections office, vital records offices, and archives
- Practical search methods: party-name searches, address and parcel trails, recorded-document indexes, and library collections
- Access boundaries: California disclosure law, confidential records, copy routes, and official request options
Limits of Our Role
This is a privately operated reference site, not part of San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, any court, or any records office. Our role has firm limits:
- We do not retrieve, certify, amend, or erase official records
- We cannot verify a person's current San Francisco address
- We have no power over government files or outside databases
- We do not offer legal advice or interpret a record for a specific dispute
- We cannot promise that every portal, fee, or office detail remains unchanged
Only the responsible custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Information reached through this reference cannot be used for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-regulated decision.
